In a world where sudden cardiac deaths account for 30% of total deaths, the need for immediate first aid is paramount. The Collaborative Aid app, designed by Pengfei Wang and his team, is a revolutionary solution that aims to address this urgent need. This innovative mobile application connects those in need of immediate medical attention with qualified individuals nearby, thereby reducing the time taken for emergency response.

The inspiration behind the Collaborative Aid app is rooted in the alarming statistic that 17.5 million people die of sudden cardiac death every year. The majority of these victims do not receive effective treatment in time, and many lives could be saved if people nearby could perform first aid promptly. The app is designed to bridge the information gap between those who can provide first aid and those who need it.

What sets the Collaborative Aid app apart from other mobile applications is its unique feature that encourages qualified individuals nearby to perform first aid, thereby shortening the rescue time. The app allows users who can provide first aid to join the 'angel plan', while those who can't may receive free training through the app. In an emergency, the app can be used to call 'angel plan' users nearby for first aid and also provide first aid guidance to the accident witness.

The Collaborative Aid app was realized using human-centered design and service design methods, with pages designed under the disciplines of human-computer interactions. The user interface, designed and prototyped by Sketch, follows the interface size of iPhone 11 and was realized using Java and Android.

The design process involved extensive research, including questionnaires, interviews, A/B testing, and user experiments based on interface prototypes. One of the main challenges faced by the design team was making users understand the novel concept of the app. To overcome this, they simplified the whole process of first aid request and 'angel plan' participation.

The Collaborative Aid app has received recognition for its innovative approach to emergency medical response. It was awarded Silver in the A' Interface, Interaction, and User Experience Design Award in 2021, a prestigious accolade rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
